What Makes Matchplay So Valuable for Junior Tennis Players?
In junior tennis, skill development is about more than just technique and drills. One of the most powerful tools to help young players grow is structured matchplay — and yet, it’s often overlooked.
At EPC Sports, we place a strong emphasis on giving kids real matchplay opportunities that simulate competition but in a relaxed, fun environment. This month, we’re offering multiple Holiday Hotshots Matchplay Sessions at Oxford Falls Racquet Club, where Red, Orange, and Green Ball players can experience the thrill of matchplay and build confidence with every point.
Why does matchplay matter?
When children participate in structured matchplay:
- ✅ They learn how to apply their skills under pressure – returning serves, staying focused, and handling different types of opponents.
- ✅ They improve their decision-making – choosing when to rally, attack, or defend becomes second nature with experience.
- ✅ They build mental toughness – experiencing both winning and losing helps develop resilience and character.
- ✅ They grow their sportsmanship and social skills – playing with peers in a positive setting creates a supportive community.
Our matchplay sessions are supervised and scored, giving players a mini-competition feel with friendly guidance. There’s no pressure — just a fun, motivating way to keep progressing over the school holidays.
