Why EPC and not UTR for junior players?

EPC offers a more stimulating tournament format for juniors with more games, different opponents, shorter matches, and similarly skilled opponents. The algorithm is performance-based rather than age-restricted.

What does ‘Starting EPC score’ mean?

Starting EPC is an estimate made by your parent or coach. If not provided, the player’s starting EPC score will be the midpoint of their division in their first competition (e.g., Red would be 50, Orange 150, etc.).

How is the EPC score outcome calculated?

A player’s EPC score outcome is calculated using our unique ELO algorithm, considering factors such as expected outcome based on both players’ EPC scores, the number of matches played, and the division they are playing in.

Why are EPC matches Best of Points?

Best of Points matches ensure that all players enjoy a fair and equal playing experience and the same length of time on court, regardless of the score. It also enables excellent data collection for player rating scores and helps ensure that tournaments finish on schedule.
